Structure of a session
Even though the focus of every session is on a different theme, the structure of every session is always the same. In each session you have an introduction, a warming-up, a core and an end. Here below I describe briefly the attention points of each element and am going to quote additional important information about the structure of each session.
1. The Introduction
During the introduction it is important to tell the children briefly what will happen during the session. In this way they get structure and predictability. Structure and predictability bring peace to the children and make sure the children feel safe. This feeling of security is needed for the further development of the sessions.
2. The warming-up
During the warming-up it is important to search for a connection with the children in a playful way. By warming-up you will further work on the feeling of safety created during the introduction and the coach will try to gain the confidence. Confidence is needed to pull the children out of their comfort zone and let them move freely, in a still pleasant way.
3. The core
During the core the mission of the session will be achieved. The goal of each session will depend on the theme. The final goal of the sessions is to strengthen preventively the self-esteem of the children.
4. The end
During the end the session will be completed. The completion has some goals:
- It makes sure you enable a moment of self-reflection
- It gives children enough self-esteem
- You can still link a positive experience to the session
5. Extra information
- The sessions will always take place in groups and will focus on maximum 8 children per session.
- The sessions are structured in such a way that 1 session per week can be carried out for 6 weeks.
- The duration of each session is indefinite. Here I would like to address the feelers of the coaches. If the concentration of the children decreases during the session, respond to this and divide the session into 2. In concrete terms, I mean that you resume the session on a different day of the week.
- The sessions are developed in a specific way so that both boys and girls can participate but the groups cannot be mixed. This means that, in the same group, boys need to be with boys and girls with girls.
